Directions & Transportation

Getting to MMU (Geoffrey Manton Building):

Travelling by car into Manchester is straightforward (find directions on the MMU website), but presents you with the difficulty of parking. Unfortunately, the University has no parking available, but there are several pay-and-display car parks nearby – for example in Chester Street, and in Booth Street East.

Taxis to MMU can be found outside Piccadilly station. From the station concourse, head down the escalators to the taxi rank. Ask for the Geoffrey Manton Building, opposite the Aquatics Centre.

The nearest railway station to the University is Manchester Oxford Road. Commuter trains run from Piccadilly Station to Oxford Road station every few minutes, from Platform 14.
From Oxford Road station, the Geoffrey Manton building is a short walk south down Oxford Road …
From the station, head right, down the right hand side of Oxford Road, past the BBC on your left. Walk for about five minutes, past several MMU buildings including the Capitol Theatre, until you see Aquatics Centre on the opposite side of the road. At this point, you should be standing outside a large red brick building – the Geoffrey Manton building – the entrance is around the back.
Or you could catch any bus heading south on Oxford Road, alighting at the Aquatics Centre.

Buses: The 147 bus (Oxford Road Link) runs every 10-15 minutes between the railway station and the University, costing 50p. Look out for the white single decker with turquoise trim. From Piccadilly Station concourse, head down the escalators and exit past the taxi rank. Cross over Fairfield Street and turn left, to find bus stop D under the railway bridge. Alight the bus at the Aquatics Centre.
Buses to/from Piccadilly Bus Station (not to be confused with Piccadilly Railway Station, which is five minutes’ walk away): 14, 16, 41, 42, 43, 43a, 44, 45a, 48, 111, 140, 142, 157, 250.
